Nails of the Week: China Glaze Champagne Kisses

Here's a little fact about me: for the longest time, I'd resisted the appeal of both glitter nail polish AND anything rose gold - because I can be stubborn like that with things everybody seems to love. (Case in point: I stopped eating chocolate when I was 14, and then a family friend gifted me at least 10 boxes of chocolate truffles for my 16th birthday. Because friends can be perverse like that.)
I've since mended my ways though and now I enjoy chocolate truffles and rose gold glitter nail polish, like China Glaze Champagne Kisses from their new Holiday 2012 collection. This is one of those rare manicure shades that I get asked about constantly and... wait for it... everybody seems to love, myself included - shock horror!
My mani here is actually one coat of Orly Rage, a metallic rose gold, topped off with one coat of China Glaze Champagne Kisses. Excuse any unevenness and slight gaps here and there, I think it's my Essie top coat that did this - I added two coats and the polish still has a noticeable dull glitter finish. But I can live with that.
I've swatched all of the China Glaze Holiday 2012 LE as well as the Essie and OPI Holiday offerings, and I think this and one more shade, to be revealed at a later date, are my two absolute favorites. Have you seen any of the Holiday nail polish collections yet? What are your picks?

  2. Haha, it totally looks like chocolate foil in the last pictures (If you have too many unneeded chocolate, I would gladly take the trouble off your hand. lol). I think I was in a glitter phase from late 2009 to early 2010, then I kind of gave up since they are so hard to remove.

    1. Citrine, you crack me up :) We can share whatever chocolate I have! It's true about the removal but I think once in a while the effect is worth it!

  4. Hi!

What a beautiful color! I love it! I wasn't a big fan of sparkles and glitters either for the longest time but I'm slowly getting there!
I've came across your blog recently, I've enjoyed reading it so far! Keep it up!
    Have a nice day!
    Kisses from Switzerland! :-)

  6. I haven't picked up holiday polishes yet...or wait, maybe I have. I can't keep the collections straight. I noticed that the Essie top coat dries to a really dull finish, too. I picked up the Butter London top coat and it's much better, actually!

    1. I think it usually dries pretty shiny but not on top of glitters - they tend to be pretty stubborn. It does however move the polish underneath around and you end up with little streaks and gaps, quite annoying.

  8. I am in love with the shade but I wish it were as even and opaque as Essies new Beyond Cozy--LOVE how that one applies!

    1. Both of your comments went through - I have comments on approval so I know sometimes it looks like your comment doesn't publish but I think I always get them :) Essie Beyond Cozy was another one I had my eye on but Champagne Kisses worked better with my skintone.

  9. Stunning combination! I still tend to be a bit resistant to glitter simply because it seems to chip quickly on me and subsequently take forever to remove. I may have to try your trick of layering it over a shade like Orly's Rage--metallics always last wonderfully on my nails!

    Beautiful!

  11. Rose gold looks so refined and elegant on you. :) I picked up the new Deborah Lippmann (black with chunky gold glitter) but now wish I hadn't. My mind actually hasn't been on nail polish lately!

(I'm a little bit in shock about the chocolate thing and the Monika fact that's been revealed. Wow!)

    1. Liz, the fact that I know anything about these Holiday collections is solely due to the fact that I have access to them at work :) I know, the chocolate thing is quite shocking, no? Fortunately I'm over it now!

  12. I picked this up after seeing it in this post, and I'm now wearing it for the SECOND TIME. Given my polish collection, this is truly remarkable. It's so gorgeously shimmery, and I love that it's a gold that doesn't look atrocious on my skintone. Thanks for the rec! :)
