It seems that I like to write these disappointing products posts every two years or so (Volume 1 here and Volume 2 here), so now's the time for another update! We all love a good make-up rant once in a while, so here's me venting my frustration about some nearly useless make-up products I dug out from the murky bottoms of my stash:
Lancome Juicy Tubes in Rio Mango ($18 for 14.16g/ 0.5 oz) - I know for some it's a cult classic, but it does feel a bit heavy and sticky on my lips, and to top it off the shade Rio Mango has absolutely no color to it; it's basically clear. Also, mine has completely separated and despite kneading the tube like crazy, I couldn't get it to its former consistency. I think at this point it needs to go in the trash - and I won't buy this again.
Similarly, I absolutely can't recall the last time I wore the Revlon ColorStay Mineral Lip Gloss in Continuous Coral ($6.99 for 0.15 fl. oz) (probably here...?). It was never my favorite formula but I guess when I first got it, I was determined to make it work; these days I probably wouldn't have bothered and simply returned the darn thing. It smells like cough medicine, sits heavily and more like liquid lipstick on the lips, and the shade is just wrong on my complexion. In the trash it goes! Next!
I'm also desperately trying to use up the Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Felt Tip Eyeliner + Serum ($10.95 for 0.088 oz - are you kidding me with that name, PF?! Life's too short for this shiz). A couple years back, everyone was raving about the original Physicians Formula eyeliner with the skinny nib, but I couldn't find at my drugstore and so purchased this instead. Well, the 'bold' felt-tip applicator is very hard to maneuver on the lashline, and the product skips and fails to deliver an even, inky black line. No comments on the serum front. This kind of turned me off trying the original skinny one as well.
I have very similar feelings towards NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Cottage Cheese ($4.49 for 5g/0.18 oz). I still hear people rave about these on YouTube from time to time, but I don't see how this would not crease on just about everyone - the formula is just so oily, and the shade I've got is not very pigmented either. I was trying to use it in my inner corners for a while, but I don't know why I should bother - a waste of time, really.
Oh gosh sorry about these! I know I have a few Avon Mark gloss tubes that are way better than Lancôme's so it was good to save money. My last disappointment was Clinique CC Cream. Glad I was able to take it back, it was way too sheer and to moisturizing for my skin type. :(ReplyDelete
Oh, that's good to know! When the Clinique CC first launched, I heard nothing but raves - but haven't heard anything about it in a while now. I guess that's probably quite telling, isn't it? Good for you for returning it.Delete
I hate the NYX jumbo pencils. Even though they were really cheap, I still felt like I wasted my money. I also regret buying drugstore foundations. No proper testing, and so darn difficult to get a good match. So I just gave up altogether. LOL!ReplyDelete
Just today I watched a make-up collection video on YouTube and the 'guru' was saying how much she loves the NYX pencils. I mean, really?! Yes, drugstore foundation is definitely a tough one!Delete
I hear you on some of these things. The era of Lancôme Juicy Tubes is most definitely over, and NYX Milk is just as terrible as this Cottage Cheese mess. I do my best to finish up some subpar things but some stuff just needs to be hurled into the garbage ASAP!ReplyDelete
Btw, what kind of shade name is Cottage Cheese, I ask you?! 'Let me smear some Cottage Cheese on my lids now for a creamy effect...' Yes, some things just need to head straight to the trash!Delete
I used to be into Juicy Tubes too, but yes, I found it gloopy & sticky, so much so it pools in the middle of my lips and sometimes got transferred onto my teeth when I'm smiling/talking, yuck! Hmm.. makeup duds. I haven't found any lately but good post idea for sure!ReplyDelete
I think occasionally I get sucked into some products because they're a cult classic - like the Juicy Tubes. Well, at least now I can say I did try it - and wasn't a fan :) I think it's a good thing you haven't found any duds lately, it's infuriating to have the fails stuck in your collection forever!Delete
miałam dwa błyszczyki z Lancome i nie moglam zrozumieć czym ludzie się tak zachwycają, bo faktycznie bardzo się kleiły i rozwarstwiałyReplyDelete
Loved reading about your fails (hmm, that sounds rather sadistic...) and I completely agree about all of the ones I've tried. The Juicy Tubes are very much of their time, I think -- 'cult classics' in makeup terms usually translates to 'dated textures' in my experience D: I think Revlon does it much better by constantly modernising the formula on their classic lipstick shades.ReplyDelete
Your nail polish looks beautiful, btw! And it goes perfectly with that Graftobian fail :)
Hahah, yes, although I wasn't intentionally matching the polish to the Graftobian orchid shade! I think there's definitely something to be said of a good formulation that stands the test of time but on the other hand - it's so nice that the product textures are constantly being refined and we get to play with new, shiny, idiot-proof make-up pretties :) And yes, Revlon Super Lustrous!!!Delete
I have tried that Revlon one and I also regret buying it. Good thing that I have passed by your blog and saw your post. I was thinking of trying the NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in Cottage Cheese. But now, I think I will forget it.ReplyDelete
Love that Lancome lipstick!ReplyDelete
